On Saturday last the- St. John Ambulance Brigade held their Ambulance Saturday, and during the day members of the brigade were active in soliciting aid for the funds of the society. Clohe upon £50 was collected, an increase of over £10 on last year's collection. The Caledonian Society's Pipe Band assisted inihe evening, playing v number of selections ' in Queeuetreefc. The band's efforts were greatly appreciated. Masterton, in common with other parts of the Dominion, ie feeling the effects of the shortage of petrol, and by the end of the present month it is jDrobable that the number of col's plying wUI be decreased. The sporting season opened on Wednesday last, and sportsmen who have returned from the Wairarapa Lake report having ! hud excellent sjxirt, good bags of ducks and swans beings secured. Swans were reported to be particularly numerous .this season. The MastHrton Dairy Company manufactured during April 14.8441b of butter, and forwarded 176 boxes to the cold stores, ready for export to the London market. A considerable decrease in the supply of milk has been noticeable during the past two weeks, owing, no doubt, to the cold weather, which nas had a very detrimental effebt on all stock, but particularly on dairy cattle. The Masterton Motor Cycla' Club held a run to Featherston on .Sunday last, about twenty cyclists taking parl, in the outing, which is practically Iho first fcinee tho club wa« formnd.
