STORM AREA LIKELY TO DEVELOP.
Some portions of the South Island experienced westerly gales on Saturday night, and districts having a westerly aspect were subject- to frequent showera of rain. In Wellington, however, although dark clouds drifted overhead only a few light showers were experienced on Sunday evening and early -this morning. Tho forecast is for » cold night ge-nerally with cold and damp weather in many parUs of the North Island and in the vicinity of Foveaaix Strait. Moderate to strong southeasterly and southerly winds will provail. There, is considerable probability ■of the development of a 6torm area to the northward of New Zealand about the* middle of the present week.
