♦ . r— KING GEORGE A COLONEL-IN, CIHfiF. A CORPS TO BE CALLED "QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S." It was announced by His Excellency tho Governor (Lord Islington) to-day that His Mttjeaty the King hpa beeu graoiously pleaded to beoomo Colonel-in-Chief of the Third (Auckland) Mounted Rifles', and of the Fkoc (Canterbury) Regiment of Infantry. His Majesty has abo been graciously f>leased to approve of the Second (Wel-ington-We&t Coast) Mounted Rifles being designated as "Queen Alexandra's." His Majesty has evidently selected one Regiment in each Island, and one each of the mounted and foot branches, for these honours. In tho case" of the Second Mounted Rifles, its senior squadron was originally known as tho Alexandra's, and was so oulled in honour of tho Queen Dowager. It is worthy of noto that since the incoption of the compulsory military training scheme, Lord Roberts and Lord Kitchener ha"o become the ColonelK-in-Chief of the R.N.Z.A-, and all New Zealand Artillery and of the corps of Now Zealand Engineers, respectively.
