FINAL FOR EASTER TOURNAMENT. Thorndon green was the scene on Saturday of tihe final pairs for the Terrace End (Palmerston North) Easter tournament, the wet weather prevailing having caused a postponement. K. Jlk'hio and B. Ma-rtin (skip) represented Terrace End -and, A. " Claridge and T. Smith (skip) Hataitai Club. The Mrong northerly winds made it exceedingly difficult to gauge the green, but in spite of the rough weather tlie Terrace End players led off in good style, and were 16 to 8 at the eleventh head. As so frequently happens in the game of bowls, Hataitai then began to make up leeway, and a score- of 5 in one head made an even game, with 17 all. On the twentieth head Hataitai was leading by 3. and managed to get one next the jack in the last head. The Terrace End skip failing to dislodge it by a. drive, Hataitai won by 4 .points, the fccorc-s being— Hataitai 25. Ten-ace End 19. The local club has had several A'ins to its credit this season, .and considering that this club lias had- only two season^ play its position is a. very creditable one. Immediately on the closing of the Hataitai green a fortnight ag^, Mr. Haiiify, C.E., who laid off the ground, took levels, and on the whole it wa# found to be very even, few depressions being found and' only one. or two high patche*-. Caretaker B&ruon, who was warmly complimented by tho visiting players during the New Year tournament, and who hat* since been asked to report on the- Gisborne and a local green, 16 now biusy, alter getting rid of the clover, with the top-dressing. The peat taken oil the ground when burnt and mixed with soil from Maianui and the grass clipping, makes excellent material for top-dressing. This may be worthy of attention on the part of other clubs, ■whose sward was none too good dining the patit season. Hataitai will have a nice little oioquot lawn ready for ladies at the commencement of next season.
