Amongst other competitions, an event which ie of special interest to tlic dairying community ie the milk tcatmg competition for farmers' uons tvnd daughters, public and High School students. Tho first prize in this is a two-bottle testing machine, douated by; Meeera, O. W. Wilton and Co., Ltd. All information may be obtained from the secretary, Mr. W.'l. Peuny, box 85> Palmerston North.

An enjoyable concert wrfs tendered to the officers and men of H.M.S. Encounter by tho Brooklyn Glee Club ou Wednesday evening. The various sol«a and glcoa were much npveriated by thelargo audience. Solos were contributed by Mesdames Free- and M'Clellan, Miss Randall, and Mrs. Russell (pianoforte). Miss G. "Bnßselb and Mr. M'Olellan gave recitations, and Mecdames Free and Brewer, and Messrs. M'Clellan and Wilton a quartet. The tflees and ohorouseft were excellently rendered. The entertainment concluded, with an. amusing farce, entitled, "A Quiet Cup of -Tea," the parts being taken by Mebdames Free and Gardiner and Messrs. C. Russell and T. Coventry. 'Among those present, were Captain Hickley, Colonel Robin, and officers of the Encounter (uul their friends.
