MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided over to-days sittings of the Magistrate's Court. Three first offenders, charged with inebriety, were dealt with. Eliza Everett and Louisa Tierney were convicted of drunkenness and being idle and disorderly persons. Each was convicted and ordered to ooino up for sentence when called upon, on condition that they romain in the Salvation Army Home for six months. . Thomas Campbell was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, for causing a breach of the peace. For drunkenness and a breach of a prohibition order— tho third lapse— Edward Waters was Bent to Rotoroa for twelve months. Joe Tong appeared on a charge of having been found, on the 10th inst, in possession of opium in a form suitable for smoking. Tho prosecution was the result of a raid by Senior-Sergeant Ratledge and Constable Doylo yesterday at 49, Haining-streot. Mr. C. S. Nixon, Collector of Custom^ appeared for the Department, and Mr. P. Levi represented defendant. Tong has been previously convicted (it appeared) for a similar offence. A remand was granted to Friday week, 19th inst. Bail in £50 and one surety of £50 was allowed. Mr. Thomas Piloher, J.P., presided at the Mount Cook Police Court to-day, and doalt with the following persons for drunkenness: — Edward Owens and one first offender were each fined 10s; tho altormitivo was fixed at forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
