MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Four first offenders were dealt 'with for inebriety. Edith Home was fined 10s for a lfee offence, and Thomae Morri6 10e. In each case the usual alternative was allowed. Joseph Hurdman, charged with drunkenness and with committing a grossly indecent act, did not appear. He was fined 10s on the tiret charge, and 50s on the second, in default Eeven dayß* imprisonment. Alexander Thompson pleaded guilty to having travelled between Lyttelton and Wellington, on the s.s. Victoria, without paying his fare of 13s 6d. Defendant said he had several drinks on board, and had no intention of evading payment. He was fined 20s, the Shipping Company to be paid if the fine is collected. For failing to give an assistant the statutory half -holiday, Samuel Wm. Moir, who pleaded guilty, was fined 10s and ordered to pay costs. A prohibition order was issued against Susan Reid. A fine of 20s was imposed on the West Coast Farmers' Trading Association, Ltd., for failing to forward to the Registrar an annual list of members and summary for 1911. Mr. H. H. Ostler represented the Department. John Deveridge, who appeared before Mr. Thomas Bland, J.P., at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning on a charge of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged.
