KARORI. BOROUGH COUNCILS
The fortnightly meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: — The Mayor (Mi 1 . C. Cathie), Councillors E. J. Standeu, 0. A. Frost, J. T. Horn, A. Hamilton, B. H. G. Burn, W. G. Bradnock, 'W. H. "N'immo, M. Anderson, and W. T. Hildreth. BUILDING PERMIT. In reference to an application frpm Mr. W. Chapman-Taylor for, a building permit for the erection of a residence on Chisenhall-street. it was decided that the permit be issued when cross-sections of the proposed building are supplied. FOOTBALL GROUNDS. The secretary of the Wellington Rugby Football Union wrote, accepting the terms offered by the council for the use of Nos. 1, 2. and 3 football grounds, and thanking the council for the manner in which the union had been treated. WORKERS' TRAM TICKETS. The City Electrical Engineer wrote, stating that the council's request that workers' tickets be issued on the 7.8 a.m. car from the Borough Chambers would be granted. STREET LAMP. A request from Standen-street residents for a street lamp was referred to the Lighting Committee. NAME OF STREET.. C. Moore, Joll-street, asked that a name-plate for the street be placed in a more suitable place. — Referred "to the PUblic Works Committee. ' FAIKYItiW ESTATE. l'he secretary of the Fairvicw Estate Company -wrote, stating that three members of the company 'would pay -over .to the council their bond of £30 each if the money was spent on roaas in front of the company's property. — Received.. ENGINEER'S REPORT. ' ' The Engineer (Mr. G. W. Brigham) reported : — Maintenance work has been carried out oji th& Main-road, ' Home-wood-avenue, Donald, M'Donald, Johnson, Standon, Peers, Duthie, and Campbell streete. The No. 2 hockey grounds have been marked and ready for play. Football grounds are being made ready for the coming season. A certain amount of work has been done around the toa rooms for planting shrubs and plantt, and the reserved space behind the boundary wail cleaned up, and the old fence removed. Drain pipes liave been laid from the tea-'rooins to the stream. , The electric light has been installed at a cost of £4 lfis in th© tea rooms, and the stopping places shifted in accordance with the directions of the council at last meeting. The construction of the concrete boundary wall on the recreation ground was completed on the 15th inst. .'Abdui four chains remains to be rough-casted, and whitened. Two days have been spent in crushing metal during the last month. The material has been mostly used in the construction of the wall, some of it sold, and the balance for streets. • About 260 yards of metal h in the binns and stacked at different, places for uce during the coming winter. - Four , men have been employed tho last two days in trimming back tho batter above the concreto wall at Burrows's cutting, and two daye more will complete tho work. I purpose next week going on with the retaining wall at Church cutting, north side, authorised by the council some time ago, at a cost of £30.— Adopted. NON-STOP CAR. Councillor Hamilton said that, in view of the approach of tho winter seaeon, ho woukfsnove that the Tramways Committee of .■tie council go into the* matter of reducing the number of cara, and try'; as an experiment, the running of a non-stop car from Molesworthstreet to the Botanical Gardens at rush time, say, 5 p.m. Seconded by Councillor • Horn and carried. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £2945 2s 6d were passed for payment. It was pointed out that £2000 of this amount was simply a transfer from one loan account to another.
