BOYS' INSTITUTE. ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Wellington Boys' Institute was held last evening. Major-General Godley occupied the cliair. There was a large attendance. Thef chairman read apologies from Sir Joseph Ward, Dr. Cibb, and others. The Premier expressed hearty t;ocd wishes for the welfare of the institute. General Godley thanked tha institute for the honour done him in inviting him to preside on the present occasion. All that he had 'heard of the institute filled him with admiration. When he read tho reports ho realised -what devotion the president (Mr. Troupjand the committee had shown in promoting ihe good work of the institution. Speaking as a. soldier, it filled him with pride to learn that one of the members had won the Victoria, Cross. It was a iine thing to find people giving voluntary education to the boys, aud lie felt sure the boys would bs grateful for what was being done. The new building, bo understood, would be opened within a year. lie only hoped "the Tasinan-stre*eb building would fill all requirements, and he hoped to have the honour of being allowed to visit the new institute building. Ho was glad to know that in the institute they liad a most efficient corps of senior Cadets, • under the command of Captain Simeon. He hoped to 6ee tho company very soon. He was glad to hear 01 tha success of the troop of Boy Scouts, who were looking forward, of course, to the arrival of Major-General Bad en -Powell. (Applause.) Again he thanked (ill em for the opportunity of coining to the institute. (Applause.) The annual report and ■ balance-sheet were adopted. Mr. G. A. Troup was re-elected president. He^ heartily endorsed the principle* of universal, military training as the best thing for boys, and traced tne work of the institute as visible in the improvement in boys since its inauguration. He spoke hopefully of the development of the institute's work. The following' were re-elected vicepresidents: Dr. J. S. Maclaurin and Messrs. M. D. Menelaus 'and C. S. Moore ; Mis. S. A. Rhodes was re-elected hon. vice-president. The other officers elected were: Hon. secretary, Mr. David Patterson ; lion, treasurer, Mr.- W. Crawford Young ; hon. auditor, Mr. It. Wil'berfoss; hon. physician, Dr. Hogg (all re-elected). ' The following committee of citizens was elected: Mcasrs. ' A. LI Haylock, D. R. Menzies, R. Pearson, R. Y. Walls, and A. R. Atkinson. A hearty vote of thanlis was carried to the honorary instructors. The chairman was accorded an enthusiastic vote of thanks 'with cheers.
