Mr. Gohns, Inspector of Factories, has commenced an action in the Magistrate's .Court against the Builders and Contractors' General Labourers' Union of Workers, claiming £200 penalty for » breach of award by instigating, aiding, or abetting an unlawful strike by members of the union, who, at the time of the strike, were doing work for the City Council, the alleged breach of award affecting drainage works in Auckland. It is alleged that members of the union employed by Mr. Moody, contractor, after working several days or hours, refused to return to work unless the system of co-operative work, or subcontracting, was discontinued on the work being carried on by Mqody and other employers, such refusal being due to an agreement between the workers and the union to compel the 'employer* to agree to the demands made.
