QUIET YEAB'S WOISK. ' FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE * REQUIRED. The annual report of the ' Committee of Management of the Wellington Boys' Institute for the year ending 1911 states, inter alia, that "the year has not been" an eventful one. After the arduous building campaign conducted » .during the previous year, 'matter* have Been allowed to go more quietly. The work amongst the boys has been preceded with on much the same lines a$ in past years. During the year the secretary, Mr, C. P. Cqioneus, resigned from-^the position of secretary, and in his pfcrcs Mr. C. X.< Dick was temporarily appointed. In view of the extension of the work at an early date, it was considered wise not to appoint a permanent secretary until euch time as our future^ policy was being entered upon." During the year 252 boys have been in attendance at, the institute building*.. The attendance has, on the .whole, kept up very well. Towards the end, instead of falling away, it increased. Competitions'in the games have been .arranged for, and, to further promote this side of the work, a very handsome shield has been presented by Mr. Frank Grady, jeweller, of Willis-street, for annual competition. A cup and a. medal have been donated by two friends for tho champion swimmer of the institute. PLANS FOR, THE FUTUEE. Th& report continues: — "While the committee has no intention of anticipating the future to the neglect of the present, is it, nevertheless, incumbent that the plans of the institute' should be laid some time ahead, so that it may be prepared for Extension when the time comes. The work of the present institute so far has been safely piloted through two stages. . During the first, covering a period of five years, the institutfe had no home of its own, and was dependent for housing accommodation on the Mount Cook School Committee. During tin* second stage, covering a period also of five years, the present accommodation has been available. The size of the building only has limited tho extent -of the work. In another year' 3 time the committee hopes to enter upon a third stage, when it will take steps to erect the new building in Tasinan-street. tute possesses a magnificent site fiee of all encumbrances, and without any restrictions, donated by a generous lady of this city, on which to erect the new building, and a sum of over £5000 with which to build. For the additional sum required appeal is now being made. Will you help? A great opportunity for advancement is at present knocking at the door of the institute. With the financial assistance tof those who have the interests of the boys of this city at heart it can be taken advantage of.
