AMATEUR ATHLETICS. SPORTS NEXT SATURDAY.
The first afternoon sport* gathering of the 1911-12 season will be that of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Ciub on the Basin Reserve next Saturday. Strong sub-committees have been' appointed to carry out'airarrange-mentein connection with the management of the meeting, and its -success should be. assured on that score. Although the council of th© New Zealand Association has practically selected th© team to represent New Zealand at th© Australasian championships, there are still a number of places to fill, partly owing to the defection of certain men who a» unable to compete and also on account o,f ckthars being apparently of equal merit. Saturday's sports will, therefore, provide <h© council with an opportunity of making a final selection. A programme of twenty events has been drawn, up, comprising -track running, cycling, hurdling, jumping, etc., the entries for which close to-night.
