This caused excitement among the people, who thought that the combination of the Union Jjtck with the Southern. Cross was. intended to forecast the Canadian ensign tiftder Reciprocity, And represented a miniature of the Union Jack with the Stars and Sti-ipes. An explanation proved satisfactory. Mr. Bouraasa, Leader of the Nationalists, assured & crowded demonstration that the creed of the Nationalist® was not anti-British, but loyalty to Canada came fir&t, and afterwards loyalty to the Mother Country. If Canada Was attacked, even by France, it was the duty of all loyal Canadians, French and English, to arm themselves, r The speech caused a. profound imprea« sion.
