ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE. "Jack and the Beanstalk" attracted fthother large audience at tho Opera House last evening, and was tefiponsibk for much hearty laughter. The antics of the historic cow, the clever acrobatic teats , of the Pantzer Troupe, and the j gorgeous ballets called forth cordial applause from all parts of the house. The last nights for the season are announced, and the final matinee will be given on Saturday. YOUNG AUSTRALIA LEAGUE BOYS The Young Australia League Boys who are on their way to America on an educational tour, gave an entertainment in tine Town HrII laet night before a very large' audience. On their tour in America the boye are to give exhibitions of their skill at the rifle range, on the baseball and football fields, in athletic exercißes, and in other ways. Last night they gave an exhibition of their powers as musical and vocal entertamerß, and that succeeded was shown by the large number of encores demanded. The boys provide their own | orchestral accompaniment, and the full braes band played several selections in capital style. Their entertainment opens with a camp scene, the boye, dressed in pyjamas and rolled in tuge, being awakened by a bugle call, and at once indulge m boisterous revels, , including th« tossing in a, blanket of a "sleepyhead and a vigorous pillow-fight. A rehearsal for a_ coming entertainment is proposed^ and in this manner the audience is introduced to the artiete. The bo* soprano of the company ie particularly good, and Allan Haft, Victor Brown^Leo Cleary, and Leslie O'Meara for their songs were all .recalled. Leslie O'Meara made quite a "hit" with the comic ditty, "The Little Shirt Mj Mother Made for Me." Horace Brown and Fred Styles also gave amusing items the former's " Whistling Rufus " beine particularly, good. The second part ol the t progn»mm« was mostly devoted t>a. display of moving pictures by West's Ltd., including a long film of the popu la* drama, "East Lynne." To-night the league boys will apptai . at The King's Theatre fn a new pro gramme, and new picture* will be shown by West's. " East Lynne " will al«o be included in the pvograffirne. The bo>« will ka.ve for America to-morrow by the Maitai. "THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME." At the Opera Honse 6n Monday evening Mr. William Anderson will produce i Nat Gould'e sporting drama, " The Chance of a Lifetime." The piece is ', pul-ely melodramatic, with a race introduced, which is founded on the Ascot Gold Cup of 1907, the finish being spoken of fla most exciting. The box plan is at the t)resd%n. theatrFroyal: There was a large attendance at the Theatre Royal last night, when Fullers' Vaudevillft Company gave a performance, that pleaded. The speciality item by Starr and Leslie is a particularly good one, and had to be repeated three times Keldin© and Klimo, trick cyclists, did many clever things; Harland and Rollison, eccentric musical comedians, caused much laughter and pleasure; and Miiss May Dahlberg, Mr. Rupert Cuthbert, and others helped materially in the evening's entertainment. THE KING'S~THEATRE. One of the most notable films at the King's Theatre is that depicting the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Cai narvon Castle," "The Crooked Way," "A Case of High Treason," and thf Pathe Gazette series are also pictures well worth seeing. BENEFIT PERFORMANCE. I Tomorrow night at The King's Theatr,*, West* Pictures will give a benefit performance to the Wellington Fox Terrier Club. A BpeciaJ programme will be submitted. Tne proceeds will be devoted towa-rfls holding a dog parade similar to the one held last May. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. A\> Bis Majesty's last evening the attendance was all tKat could be wished. The picture of the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Carnarvon Castle hit the_ popular taste. In addition there were pictures grave and gay— all good. There will be a change of programme this evening, when much that is new artd intefesting-*-includi i ng European and American successes— will be submitted to patrons for their pleasure. THE NEW"THEATRE. All sessions at the continuous picture show at The New Theatre yesterday were well attended. The programme contains a . diversity of subjects. A ladies' retiring room has been fitted up at the Manners-street entrance, STAR PICTURES. Good bußineew continues to be done by the' Star Picture Proprietary. There is to be a new bill to-night. MISSIONS TO^ SEAMEN. A very successful concert was giveil in the Missions to Seamen Institute last evening by the workers of the mission, tho misflioner (Mr. F. 8. Shell) preside ing. Items were contributed by the following :— Mrs. WilliSj Miss Leiz, Messrs. Evans, Jameson, Parker (of the R.M.S. Ruahine), Colpus, Paul, Culver* well, Lambert, and Drnnb, and by the Glee Party. Mr, Gardner acted as accompanist. Tha conundrum competition was won by eailor* from the ships, kilbirnieljeach rink. ladies' hockey match at the Kilbrrme Beach Rink last evening resulted in a win for the Kilbitnie team by 4 goals to 2. On Friday . evening next the rink team will play the " Warnore," and on 6th September a fancy costume match will be played. Usual sessions to-day,
