MIRACULOUS ESCAPE OF THREE MEN. C*t TBLEORAfS— SMCIAt 10 IHX FOSS.] PICTON, This Day. A sensational explosion of a motor launch was reported this morning. J. Perano s launch Crescent, used for whaling purposes, was put on the beach yesterday in readiness for cleaning. Three men slept aboard— Baxter, Hebberley, and Gillice. At 1 o'clock this morning the men got up to commence work, and one was in the act of -lighting a lantern when an explosion of benzine, dynamite, and powder occurred. There were about thirty plugs of dynamite stored for whaling-gun ammunition and a quantity of powder. The men were hurled half a chain away. Baxter received the greatest injury, being burnt about the face and body. Tho launch, including a patent gun and whaling facilities, was strewed 4 into atoms two" hundred yards along the beach. • , It was miraculous that no lives were lost.
