Private advices received in Dunedin indicate that Sir William Hall-Jones and family will leave for the Dominion I in September next. Sir James Carroll, the Hon. G. Fowlds, and the Hon. D. Buddo, and other members of Parliament who attended the funeral of the late Mr. T. E. Taylor, returned to Wellington from Christchurch this morning. The Hon. C._ M. Luke, M.L.C., who has been suffering from bronchitis, had a relapse on Saturday, and, although improved to-day, has had to return to his bed. He will probably b© absent from the Legislative Council for a week. Mr. W. W. Wilson, of Auckland, who will attend to the magisterial duties at Nelson while Mr. J. 87 Evans, S.M., is acting as president of the Mines Commission, arrived from the North yesterday afternoon, en route to Nelson. The Rev. J. Dawson, secretary of the Ne\v Zealand Alliance, and the Rev. W. J. Comrie, chairman of the Alliance Executive, who went to Chrktehurch to at* tend the funeral of the late Mr. T. E. Taylor, returne3 to Wellington this morning. Mr. Harry Jaekmann, late Secretary of the Thomdon Bowling Club, who has just resigned from the position, has been made the recipient of a handsome greenstone matchbox, in gold, in recognition of the capable wa.y i in which he discharged his responsibilities, Senior Sergeant Mackinnon, of Waihi, formerly attached to the Lambton-quay Station, is to be transferred to Auckland, vice Senior Sergeant Treanor, who is ta have charge of the Police Station at Newton, Auckland, ill succession to Sub-Inspector Sheehan, now at Wellington. Private letter* received in New Zealand report that Bishop WaJlis arrived in England much benefited by the sea voyage, but doctors advice that he must take great care, and they even forbade him going to London during Coronation time. It is probable that he will have to live generally in the country, not undertaking much work. The Bishop himselfj however, writes very cheerily, and evidently is much stronger than he was. Mr. H. D. Vickery, F.1.A.N.Z,. was yesterday appointed secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, out of over thirty candidates. Mr. Vickety ha* been resident in Wellington over twelve years. He was formerly in the Bank of New Zealand, later in Levin and Co.'s office, and is how in business lut himself as a public accountant and company pecretary. He will retain hie present business, which will be conducted at the Chamber of Commerce.
