ReaSe in a. letter addressed to yon refers to committees 1, 2, and 3. For the information of sub' ecribers No. 1 that he speaks of, was .1 self-appointed committee of six (6) persons who met at a private house, which has been, since supplemented. At the last meeting of this committee, which his letter refers to, three of the original committee refused to < attend.' No: 2 consists of twelve ladies, who were appointed at a public meeting of ladies, held in the Congregational Church, Alicetown, which was crowded to overflowing. No. 3 that Mr. Reade asserts, has "arrogated to itself the right to do as it pleases, "consists of the Mayors of Hutt and Petone, Father Lane, Rev. Mr. Harris, Dr. Purdy, Messrs. Baldwin, Freeth, Pinny, Trotman, and Reade, and was appointed at & large publit, meeting held in St. James's Hall. Subscrib-' ers will judge whether or no No. 1, the private self-appointed committee, is a representative one, and had the right' to elect persons to act as trustees, and invest money for Mrs, Hepple, as in his, letter to you Mr. Reade says has been done, even to giving their names. As for No. 3 "arrogating to itself the right to do a« it pleases," that this is not the case is proved by the fact that at its meeting on Tuesday when it dispensed with Mr. Reade's services as hon. secretary, a- resolution was passed to the effect that a meeting should be held next week, of the various committees, ! including, of course, No. 1, and also representatives of contributors in Wellington for the purpose of determining how the fund should be disbursed,— I am, etc., LOWER HUTT. I 28th July,, 1911.
