NEW SCHOOL WANTED
FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION. Laet night's meeting of the Technical Education Board was attended by Messrs. D. Robertson (chairman), J. P. Luke, M.P., J. G. W. Aitken, John Smith, J. E. Fitzgerald, G. Frost, W. Allan, and W. H. Field, M.P. The chairman remarked that he thought the Minister for Education had been convinced that a new school was freeded, and now was the time to approach the authorities. The staff was working under great disadvantages so far as accommodation was concerned. The Minister expected a site to be obtained before he would make a grant. Mr. Luke pointed out that it must be remembered that technical education Wa<s not confined to evening classes. The process wae going on from 9 a.m. upwards, and there was no place for recreation except the street, The Government did not legislate in that way even for the people working in factories, who had to have their meals outside the building. The time had not arrived when they should have two schools : that would retard the work. Mr. Aitken moved that a committee wait on the Finance Committee of the City Council to ask for the site in. I John-street, which was under consideration two years ago. Then the Minister could be asked to erect the school. t Mr. F?ost was sorry the John-street Bite was proposed. It would, lie said, be a great mistake to ask for it, and it would probably _ meet with opposition at the City Council. The motion was afterwards amended by the addition of the words, " or some other suitable site." Councillor Fitzgerald said that St. Patrick's College was a splendid site. The property was to be disposed of, he understood. The motion was carried.
