ASSAM MURDERS.
PUNITIVE EXPEDITION TO BE SENT. By Telegraph.— l'ress Association.— Copyright. (Received July 28, 9 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 27th Jtdy. An expedition numbering two thousand men will leave early in October to punish the murderers of Mr. Williamson. Mr. Noel Williamson, a British political officer, with others of hie party, wa.s murdered at Sadiyo, Assamj by Abare tribesmen early in April laet. There were only four survivors. Friendly tribesmen stated that Mr. Williamson was bound and mutilated. When news of the murders reached the Indian authorities a party of Bentinck's military police wa-s despatched, but had to halt at Padhigat on account of swollen rivers, and it was then repotted that the successful carrying out of the expedition would be impossible till the advent of the cold weather.
