A serious riot has occurred at Chitders, the principal town in the leie sugar-producing district. i A body of 160 1 sugar strikers attacked ! forty free labourers in a factory, «n«.sh« I ing the windows and damaging the machinery. Several persona were also injured. A magistrate was cent for to read the Riot Act. The dimturbance was eventually quelled. A strike of pedlars in Chicago against a anti-noise ordinance has resulted in Women carrying babies took a prominent part in the disturbances. The police, drawing their revolvers, charged the crowd, which Was stoning an antistrike pedlar. Scores of person* were injured, and three of the police had to be taken to th^ hospital.
