! CHRISTCHURCH, 27th July. The Midland railway line was rathei severely affected by the recent stoims, a number of slips and washouts between Otarama and the Cass causing anxiety. It was reported this morning that the slips between Olarama and Broken River had been cleared away and that the train which left Christchurch ab 8.30 a.m. would get through to (he old Broken River terminus, Thri line n*. tween Broken River and the Casd is ab present blocked, but large gangs of mm are working on it undef the diWction of the district engineer, Mr. C. Biss. It is anticipated that the line will be cleared to-morrow, so that trains from the Cass to Christchurch will get through all right. Communication is being maintained on the north line, though repairs- have still to be made on several weak places. Th& motor service to Hanmer is suspended in the meantime.
