The first important istage "towards the holding of a big international Exhibition in Auckland were taken this afternoon, when the Chamber of Commerce practically committed itselt to tho undertaking, and authorised a public meet, ing to be called to discuss the necessary steps. The- chamber received a report of the committee appointed to confer on the matter, which stated that tho committee had unanimously resolved : "That a first-class international Exhibition should be held in Auckland within tile ne-xt two y«ars." The chairman (Mr. Leo Myers), in moving the adoption of the report, reminded members that it was thirteen years since the last Exhibition had been held. For some time past considerable .discussion had taken place in business circles in regard to this matter, and the proposal seemed .to have met with general approval, not only in, Auckland, but elsewhere. The -Exhibition would give a,n excellent opportunity for aiding, and generally assisting in demonstrating the progress of the Dominion. Ho moved the adoption of the committee's report. Mr. Guneon seconded the motion, which was carried without dissent.
