THE POST'S ATTITUDE CRITICISED.

£»!', TILEGHAPR — SPECIAL -TO THB POST.] AUCKLAND, This Day. ' In the course of his remarks concerning the proposed Exhibition; Mr. L&o Myers said that the only jar was in regard to a leading article which had appeared in the Evening Post. The chamber regarded The Post as a journal which • generally looked at bupli matters from a national standpoint, but [ he feared that on this occasion it had rather misinterpreted the position. The Posfseemed to think that it was the intention of the Provincial Committee to ask tho Government for financial assistance, similar to that given to the Chrktchurch Exhibition, for which the Government was" mulcted to the extent of some £50,000 or £60,000. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce did not suggest that the Government would subsidise the Exhibition in this way, and the chamber would be satisfied 'with a much smaller amount. He suggested that The Post should stay its editorial hand until it knew what the requests of the Provincial Committee of the Auckland Exhibition were likely to be. There was, he said, a general expression of opinion at the time when the financial aspect of the Christchurch Exhibition wa*r being considered that Exhibitions supported by Government subsidies should be held at reasonable intervals in each of the large cities of the Dominion, so he thought the Chamber of Commerce might go to the Government with every reasonsble- expectation that ita request would be granted.
