ENORMOUS POSSIBILITIES.
Mr. F. J. Pinny, of Wellington, who has been spending a vacation in Tau^ ranga and the neighbourhood, has returned much impressed with what he saw there. "It was sad, however," he said to a Post reporter, "to see thousands upon thousands of splendid laitdi lying idle. The people seem to know nothing about it, or are unable to get on to it. I could not help wondering where our young men a-re that they do not try this country, i.e., between Tauranga and Te Puke. 4 It is going at a very moderate price, ia easy to clear and work, and tlie climate is perfect. I have never seen finer fruit anywhere than is raised in this neighbourhood. Gi'3pes grow luxuriantly in the opens air. It eeems to me that the Government should assist people to settle on this land. "Tho Government is working steadily on the railway from the inner side ot Mongonui, and this would improve. Tauranga from a commercial point of viow. A wharf is being erected that will take the largest, steamers afloat at Tau. ranga. They will be able to work tha harbour at all tides. The new line which is being laid to Te Pu'-ce in the, first instance will ultimately tap some splendid country. The Wairoa River, navigable for forty miles, is now much usacl for transport of maize and timber) ' from the back country to tlie port. The country has great scenic attractions, too, only to mention the Owmana Falls, some twelve miles out of Tauranga. "I consider there are enormous posi sibilifcics in the Taurauga country," Mr. Pinny concluded, "for our young men. The Government has a very fine experimental farm there, and the manager, Mr. Beridge, is, as I found, most willing to afford any information to settlers and visitors. Experimental work of much value is being done on the farm."'
