THE AORANGI'S BREAKDOWN.
Passengers by tho Aorangi on her vufll up to San Francisco gave great praiso to Captain Evans and the chief engineer (Mr. Ward) and his staff for the masterly way in which they met the breakdowns in the engine-room. The first breakdown, occurred when the steamer was between Rixotonga andi Papeete. Bepairs were promptly, effected at sea, and the Aorangi reached the French port without further nrishap.i The second breakdown was in connection with a pin in the crank-shaft, and it occurred when the steamer was well on her way from Papeete. The engine-i room' staff was engaged for some twentyfour hours without intermission. It was suggested that when temporary repairs had been effected the Aorangi should, make for Honolulu, but this was unnecessary, as the weather was fine and the work done would hold. The pas-i sengere beguiled the time with sharkfishmg while the steamer was not under way. When the repairs; were finishedi the Aorangi made for San Francisco, where her engines were overhauled andi put into thorough order. She made a good run across the Pacific and anived in Wellington in good time.
