THE DEFENCE FORCES.

Members of tho Victoria College Rifles paraded for inspection and drill at tho Kelburne Park at 7.30 o'clock this morning. There was a very good muster, the ranks of the company being supplemented by a number of recruits, who recently joined the corps. Business at the Eastbourne Borough Council meeting on Saturday was purely .formal. The Mayor (Mr. H. VV. Short t) took the opportunity of thanking councillors lor their ready assistance given to him in his official capacity as Mayor. The councillors present spoke in complimentary terms of the ability s}jowii by the Mayor. A vote of thanks was accorded the town clerk (Mr. J. D. Avery) and the staff for faithful attenI tion to their several diycifs.
