THE TALISMAN MINE, LOCAL DIRECTORS' REPORT.

The local directors of the Talisman Gold-mining Company (Dr. Knight and Mr. Ralph Jackson), who visited tho Talisman Consolidated Mine on 30th March, have sent thpir report to Lou don. The extracts which follow are taken from that report :—: — The plant is now running well, the tube mills doing excellent work in producing boiler extraction and economy in treatment. Mr. Stansfield (manager) slalss that when the reset ves are more opened out the present plant will treat SUOO tons per mouth, and with the erection of one more tube mill 6000 tons 'per month. The big Cornish pump in the Woodstock chamber is now practically complete, and is capable of lifting 100,000 to 120,000 gallons per hour. Finishing touches have only to be done to the boilers, and then to be housed. ■- Crown Mine ceased pumping about a, fortnight ugo, but it is said they will resume as soon as rain comes, as they will then have their water-power available. The water is how keeping steady in the Crown Mine and our pumps aie doing 3b,000 gallons per hour. As their capacity is 60,000 gaUc-ns per hour, there is nothing to fear on this account. The reason for suspending the sinking of the Talisman shaft is that the extra volume of water coming from the Crown makes it moie expensive and difficult. Sinking will be resumed shortly. Deepening the Woodstock shaft starts within five and six months. No difficulty anticipated with this, and it should ue done rapidly, country being very .favourable. On descending the Woodstock shaft to the old No. 6 Woodstock level, the resampling of this level shows 125 ft near the Woodstock shalt to be valued at 28s per ton. It is a beautiful-looking lode, similar in appearance" to the Bonanza.' At the noith end of the drive nearest to the Woodstock shaft the face gives similar values, and it is proposed to extend this drive northwards shortly. Descending 80i't down to main 13 level in Woodstock' section, the north end of the drive is still in lotten country, and it is thought that 160tt wili yet have to be driven to get into better class of country showing overhead. Mr. Stansfisld considers prospects of this section ab being good. The run overhead, which contains the values shov;ing 28s, is about the same t depth as the barren zone struck between 12 and 13 levels in Bonanza section. At depth therefor it is probable values will increase. We descended the No. 12 winze, Bonanza section 13 level, to its bottom, 150 ft in all. This carries very high values most of the way down. i<rom the bottom 80ft has been driven south, lode averaging about 6ft wide, carrying high values. Present face is right" under where values were poor on the floor of No. 13, a yood indication as showing reef to be more consistent ; 80ft has also been driven north with high values, and no hanging wall is showing at the end • of tho present face. At this point the junction of another vein is showing, probabJy what is known as the east vein, as it comes in where it was expected. No. 15 winzo is now down 40ft, showing high grade oie all the vca\, with no hanging wall, \No work has been done in winzes Nos. 5, 6, 8, and 13 since the Woodstock fire, the manager's energies being concentrated upon pushing ahead with all speed the work in Nos. 12 and 15 winzes, and so far with great results. The Dubbo section is the most important development that has taken place for some considerable time in the mine, last 50ft driving having disclosed a fine reef in good country averaging 6ft to 7ft wide with no footwall in the face, carrying payable values. A little free gold has also been seen. Another 50ft of driving ahead, and it is proposed to put in an "uprise to connect with a winze to be sunk from No. 12 level at a point where good values for a few feet showed there. The Dubbo promises to make a valuable and continuing new ore body, which should add very considerably to our reserves. In the face and for some 20ft back the ore is very oxydised, and it would not be unlikely that the drive is passing along the cap of the ore shoot. In No. 4 crosscut winze started on one of -the small patches of sulphide or© met with in the drive north of this crosscut is now down Bft. It is proposed to resume sinking there at an early date. On the whole the prospects of the mine were never so brignt, and during the ■ last twelve months the development!! have been particularly goqd, proving .the ore bodies below No. 13 to be of i-much higher grade and. more consistent, 'There are several most interesting points , where good developments are probable for the forthcoming' year. The local board are phased to state the reserves show a considerable, increased tonnage •tend a satisfactory increase in. value.
