THE APPEAL OF W. F. DARBY. The attention of the Court of Appeal was occupied to-day with the furtherhearing of the argument in the appeaJi of . Walter Francis Darby against his conviction in Auckland for certain breaches, of the Bankruptcy Act. Mr. F. Earl, with him Mr. E. W. Burton, appeared for appellant, and Mr. J. W. Salmond, Solicitor-General, for the Crown. Continuing his address, Mr. Burton said that up to a certain point Darby's accounts were fairly well kept. The Chief Justice: Some were shown as credits that should have been entered as debits. Mr. Burton: That was an isolated transaction. His Honour : It does not stand alone. After hearing Mr. v ßurton at length, the Chief Justicevsaid: — "At present we will not call upon the Solicitor-General, but if we require an answer we will say so to-morrow."
