Blow, Under-Secretary for Public Works, has sent a reply to the representations of the Architects' Institute concerning Parliament House competitions. Ho says the schedules for xhe accommodation were drawn up by Parliament's officers and the dimensions given ia a few cases should serve as a^ guide. The Government avoided a definite grouping of the rooms so as not to hamper the competitors. The same reason is given lor the vagueness regaidiug the fize of the chambers and the public galleries. There will be no change ill the. site. The old Parliament Buildings will remain, but will not be ussd for Parliament purposes. Certain rooms must be on the ground flooi. There is no definite location for the lemaiuder. The scale of ths plans will I not be altered, several competitors havj ing already made progress on the stated ! scale. The Government will be guided by an assessor and a committee as to exhibition of designs, but the competitors may exhibit their own. No amendment is contemplated regarding the competition of Civil servants, and no extension of time can be granted. Clauses will be inserted in the conditions providing that each, competitor must certify that the design is his own work or that of assistants under his supervision. No competitor ■will be awarded more than one premium. The conditions are now being reprinted.
