SALE OF CITY PROPERTY.
AN IMPORTANT TRANSACTION. As reported in yesterday's issue of Tho Post, Messrs. J. H. Bethune and Co., in conjunction with MeEErs. Harcourfc and Co., sold by auction tho property of tho Australian Widows'- Fund Lifo Assurance Society, Nos. 113 and 115, Customhousequay, comprising a blook of land having 30ft frontage by a depth of 108 ft 6in, to- | gether with the countinghouse and offices of three Btoroys with basement thereon. | The purohauer was Mr. TV". Boauchamp Platts, as agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation, and the price obtained was £16,000. The sale was conducted by Mr. Gellatlv. of Messrs. J. H. Betlmne and Co., in Messrs. Harcourt and Co.'s rooms, Panama-street. There was a Jargo attendance, and tho bidding was spirited from the starting price of £12,000 Tho auctioneers state that tho result of this sale proves that when central properties aro genuinely placed on tho market lor sole there is a good demand amongst keen business men, and fair 'prices can bo rolled upon. When the Australian Widows' Fund booiety wa3 acquired by the Mutual Lifo and Citizens' Assurance Company, the ! offices were no longer reouired. Everything was sold yesterday ai it stood, except the statuo of a man attempting to break a bundle of sticks, which surmounts the pediment of the building.
