THE GLORIES OF THE BELT.
AN ENTHUSIASTIC AVRITER. Many of Wellington's people have not yet discovered the charms of their own Town Belt, which commands a thrilling panorama, of sea. and mountain. "W.D." who writes to the Post to-day, is not one of those who have missed the glories that abundantly lie to the eye of the walker on the uplands. One bright day he strolled along the ridge from Coromandel-street to Sutherland-road, and he had delights that set his pen to this tribute : — "The view from the hills was simply grand — yachts flitting about Evans Bay and the harbour, boats dotted all over the water, youngsters bathing (clothed in nothing but streaks of sunshine), the cars flitting up and down Kilbirnie valley, people tumbling and rolling in the surf at Lyall Bay, the roar of the surf blended with the hum of the cars and the sound of voices. I would only weary you to say more, but the weather, the view, and everything, was grand, simply grand." The enthusiast also had pretty words for the towering mountains of the South Island and the ranges of the North. All this beauty may be reached for 2d from the heart of the city. "W.D." is eager to see- the council improving the track that leads to the enchanting heights. Fences, with awkward barbed wire, obstruct the seeker of refreshing beauty, especially if the skeer is skirt-chid. He desires the council to put in gates or styles, and generally smooth the path to the loveliness that is spread about in profusion for all Wellington to see for 2d. Mr. J. P. Luke-, chairman of the Reserves Committee, has promised to interest himself in the betterment of the track.
