AERIAL LEAGUE GOLD MEDAL
PRESENTATION TO SIR. GRAHAMS \\ HITE. fFEOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] LONDON, 16th December. The Aerial League of tho British Empire gave a reception at the Waldorf Hotel "to meet Mr. Graham WEite." The guests, who numbered 200. inducted Sir William Hall-Jones, Lord Roberts, Captain R. Muirhead Collins, and Miss Paulino Chase. Sir William Hall-Joucs presided during the afternoon at a meeting at which Lord Roberts presented tho special gold medal of the Aerial League to Mr. Grahamo AVhito for his. services in the advancement of British aeronautics. In making the presentation, Lord Roberts recounted Mr. Grahamo White's successes during the past year, finishing with the Gordon-Bennett meeting, whore ho beat the picked flyers of all nations. It was, ho said, a very grand record. It was impossible to say what Mr. Grahame White would do next. Ho had got their confldenco and their be&t wishes, and they hoped and believed that he would be the prize flyer of tho world. In reply, Mr. Graham White said it was naturally a source of great pleasure to him to have the Gordon-Bennett trophy for Great Britain. The winning of the contest would assure for this country tho organisation of the greatest aviation meeting that had been held up to the present time, ior next year Great Britain would have the organisation of the Gordon-Ben-nett contest, a fact which he hoped would give a great impetus to aviation in this country. The present was tho timo for British manufacturers and captalists to come forward with assistance, so that England might have tho supremacy of the air in the same way that sho now commanded the &ea. Ho hoped that when we came forward in next year's contest, wo should win it on an all-British machine. His strong desire wae to establish an Aeronautical Reserve in this country, and ho was anxious to show the Naval authorities that it was possible to fly from tho deck of a battleship and to return to that battleship and alight on its deck again.
