Ifc is announced that 164,000 savings bank depositors hold Consols to the value of 23 millions. At many bank meetings in London the feature of the discussions has been the depreciation in Consols, and many speakers favoured popularising this security. Lord St. Aldwyn (formerly Sir Michaol Hicks-Beach, for many years Chancellor of the Exchequer), in presiding at tho meeting of the London Ooint Stock Bank, favoured the issue of Consols in £5 bonds through tho post offices.
