AUSTRALIAN POSTAL SERVICE.
HOURS CURTAILED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. HOB ART, 27th January. At the Inter-State Postal Congress, the Postmaster-General, the Hon. Josiah Thomas, announced that from Ist March the post offices throughout the Com^ionwealth would close at 6 o'clock at night, but arrangements would be made at the principal offices for the despatch of business at later hours to meet the needs of each locality. No alterations . would be mado in the facilities for tho despatch of press telegrams. [The Commonwealth Postal Service was the subject of enquiry a short time ago by a Royal Commission, which submitted an exhaustive report. Long hours was one of the grievances complained of.] __ DEMANDS UNJUSTIFIED. (Received January 28, 9,55 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Federal Service Commissiouer", reporting on the general dissatisfaction in the postal service, praises the present policy of the department, and states that the men's demands are unjustified.
