TELEGRAMS.

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETICS. FALLING-OFF AT FEILDING. fBT TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THB POST.] FEILDING, This Day. It is plainly evident thai the Feilding Athletic Club, which held its thirtysecond annual sports meeting yesterday afternoon, lags somewhat superfluous. •The club had been holding its meetings cm Boxing Day, but each successive one in recent years was less successful, until last year the club became moribund. Then Mr. Ernest Short provided an elixir of finance, and it was decided to try an off-day to test popularity. The first of the off-day trials was yesterday, and ihe public stayed away yet again. As the takings (£25) indicate; naturally the committee, -which, went to come trouble, is disappointed. There seems to be a growing feeling in favour of amateur rather than professional athleticism along the coast.
