HIGH PRICES FOR FRUIT. High prices have been ruling at the Fruit° Market during the week. Sydner oranges realised 18s to 23s per gm case. Mandarins, 20s to 24s pvr bushel case; lemons, 5s to 6s; passions, 18s to 265 ; pineapples. 14s to 17s ; apricots, 10s to 12s per half gin; plums, 6s to 8s per box; cherries, boxes- 10s to 15s. Cherries from Melbourne landed today in bad condition, and values were very low. Tasmanian stunners sold from 16s to 22s per case, California apples sold yesterday at 14:* to 16s per case. Further supplies- are due here next Tuesday, via Auckland. Local grown fruit is in good request, cherries (Nelson) sell from 8s to 13s per half case; red currants, 6s to 7s; green .gooseberries, 4s to 4s 6d, and ripe, 6s 6d to 7s 6d ; tomatoes, 17s to 225 ; apricots, 10s to 12s; plums, 4s to 6s per box. Lower Hutt new potatoes sold at 12s to 14s per cwt ; gooseberries, 2d to 2id per lb ; French, beans, 6d pev lb ; tomatoes, Id to lOd per lb ; strawberries, Is 3d to Is 9d per lb. Other vegetables, excepting cabbages, are in over-supply, meet with fair competition. The following are a few prices : — Cabbages, Is to 2-3 ; cauliflowers, 5s to 6s ; carrotb, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; turuipo. 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; beetroot, jss to 6s ; parsnips, 6s to 8s ; lettuce, 3s 6d to 5s 3d ; green peas, 7d to Is per peck ; cucumbers, 3d to 8d each ; asparagus, 5s to 10s pei dozen; rhubarb, 2s to 3s 9d per dozen. French beans from Australia arrived this week and sold from l^d to 2£d per lb ; they were very unattractive, being too old. A large consignment of vegetable marrows, for the season, arrived from Auckland on Friday, and realised 4s 6d to 6s 6d, according to size of boxes.
Customs revenue collected at Wellington during the week ending to-day totalled £19,249 Bs. Beer duty amounted to £388 2s. Harold Turner, aged thirteen, son of Mr. G. H. Turner, local manager of the Blackball Coal Company, broke one of his legs yesterday while playing in the Terrace School grounds.
