A meeting of the State Cabinet was held to-day to discuss the political situation. It was decided to await the final returns before taking any definite steps. EIGHT-HOUR DAY. As the result of a number of Eight Houts Day officials at Bathurst assisting the Liberal candidates in the late election, many unionists declined to participate in. the annual procession, which consequently was much below the usual standard. MR. M'GOWEN'S SUCCESS. HOW THE HERALD ACCOUNTS FOR IT. (Received October 18, 8.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Sydney Morning Herald,' in accounting for Mr. M'Gowen's victory at tne polls, says the steadily increasing Labour vote was enormously accentuated from outside, particularly from the Liquor interest. Liquor, says the paper, appears to have voted solidly for Labour, as Labour appears to have voted solidly for Liquor.
