THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS.

One wonld scarcely expect to find ice fully half an inch thick in the stable buckets at Trentham at this season of the year. There it was, however, thi* morning, and the grass, white as know, as the result of the heavy frost, cracked under foot. Naturally enough, in the circumstances, trainers and riders were ! hot keen to commence, and the business of the day was not proceeded with until half an hour later than usual. The out"6ide of the' course proper was again available, but very few gallops of any importance were witnessed, most of the horses being restricted to steady racing, or comparatively . sharp sprints. Boanerges (A. Oliver) found no difficulty in traversing fonr furlongs in 51 l-ssec. Danube and Directoire ran half a mile in company in 51 2-osec, and Lady Medallist accounted for the last seven, cf eight furlongs in lmin 33 3-ssec. Bootle showed the possession of plenty of pace whilst sprinting three furlongs, a distance over which Peirene easily accounted for Bronze. Miscount, St. Petersburg, and Sea Queen were associated in a gallop ez- , tending to half a mile. St. Petersburg got away with a length or -two advantage, but Miscount beat him home comfortably in 49 3-se6c, Sea Queea being some listance away at the frnjfh Master Lad do, who appears to be improving, finished three lengths ahead of The Lark, who ran a mile in lmin 49»ec. Avarice and Peter Pan left fomr furlongs behind in 4Ss»ec, and Polymorphous was sprinted over a short coarse. Kopu (T. 0 Brien), Birkdale {J. Bnch- | anas), and Sir Tristram (F. D. Jones], hopped away together opposite the seven • I furlongs disc. When the winning post I I teas reached, Birkdale, irho was striding j ! along fairly comfortably, held half a j length's advantage over Kopu. whilst Sir I Tristram, who had been beaten off, was eight or ten lengths in the rear. Longsiep proved too speedy for Lady ! Kilcberan, -whom she beat by four lengths '' after cutting out half a mile in 43 2-ssec 1 St. Toney (G. Brown) left four fur- j longs behind in 48 5-ssec i . Bridge (H. Gray) ran the last seven of j eight farkmgs in lmin 35eec, and Loog- : ; wood cleared ont from Bracken, whilst ; ' galloping five furlongs in lmin 4 5-Ssec •' Biabclc, John..
