HOW DISEASE MAY BE SPREAD IN SCHOOLS. "Is it not a fact," asked a householder at the meeting at the South Wellington School held last* evening to elect a new committee, "that thirty cases of diphtheria have been reported in a certain school?" Mr. G- Flux, the headmaster, said that, so far as his school was concerned, only one case had been reported. He would be surprised to learn that there were thirty cases in iho city at the present time. In answer to a question whether the Health Department notified head teachers of infectious disease, Mr. Flux remarked incidentally that some amendment was needed in the present system of supervision exercised by the department. There should be some protection for school*, against infection from ch{H<ren, who were allowed to return to school before the period of danger was over, or cam© from families not free from infection. His suggestion was that the head teacher of a school should be given some nptice as to the period over which infected children should be compelled to remain away from school. There was a very grave responsibility resting upon parents in such cases, and it was only by their active assistance and co-operation that systematic supervision was possible.
