POLITICAL WEATHER.
ADVICE. TO BRITISH LIBERALS. "CARRY YOUR MACINTOSHES." MR. LLOYD GEORGE AND THE WOMEN. By Telejjr*ph.— Press A«soci«tion.— Copyrichfc (Received August 13, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 12th August. Mr. Lloyd George, Chancellor of th# Exchequer, addressing the Carnarvon Women's Liberal Association, justified his recent vote against the granting of woman's suffrage. He declared that Mr, Shackleton's was an undemocratic Bill. It proposed to give a vote to every, woman with property, but he pointed out that barely one-te.nth of the working women had any. He and Mr. Wiai ston Churchill (Home Secretary) ha<| been denounced as traitors to the w<h men's cause because they did not sup, port a measure which the suffragists o$ Australia and New Zealand woulfl scornfully reject. He doubted if thf! r women ieally wanted the franchise. Settlement of the House of Lords* ; veto question and the question of Welsh' r church disestablishment were paramount now; afterwards democratic suffrage would have his whole-hearted support.* The political weather, added Mr. Lloyd George, was a little uncertain, and he would advise Liberals to carry their macintoshes.
