Various public bodies' balance-sheets returned from the Audit Department bear tagy to the effect tba.t there is no authority in law for the payment of members' travelling expenses, in some cases reaching a fairly large amount. The school committees to-day passed a absolution asking Mt. Okey, M.P., to bring the matter under the notice of the Prime Minister with a view to legislation to have these payments authorised by law.
