Southerly winds have prevailed north ward of Hokitika and Kaikoura, and easterly backing to northerly, strong to gale, elsewhere. Cold and damp weather was experienced in the North Island, and cloudy and unsettled weather generally. Rain has fallen in most parts of the country, and heavy rain nas experienced in parts of the North Island yesterday snd during the night. Rivers are flooded at Foxton and Kaikoura. Seas have increased on all ttie western coast, and theie nas been considerable swell on the east coast southward of Castlepoint.
