THE BOY SCOUTS.
DEMONSTRATION IN THE TOWN HALL. ■ A very interesting entertainment was given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Saturday night by representatives of the various Boy^Scout troops in Wellington. It also attracted an aldience which filled the hall to overflowing; in fact, late comers had to be refused admission. Scout songs and sketches were given by the Te Aro Troop, Mount Victoria Troop, and Boys' Institute Troop, and were most entertaining. The Wellington Pipe Band and Dancers' Club contributed dances, two Amokura lads" (P. Jenkins and J. Smith) a smart bout with singlesticks, and Mrs. M. Sutcliffe a recitation, "The Midnight Charge." Lively interest was taken in the competitions in signalling, first aid, bugling, knotting, and Hut building, for they gave an insight into the work carried on by the Scouts when on duty. The demonstrations were much appreciated, and the efforts of the lads loudly applauded. The results of the competitions are as follow : — District Championship Signalling Competition, for medal presented by Mr. Stuart Robinson. — Scout J. Weigh, Kelburno Troop, 1 ; Scout Cox, Petone Troop, 2. District Championship First Aid Competition, for banner presented by Mr. W. H. S. Moorhouse.— Boys' Institute (Wolf Patrol). District Championship Bugle Competition, for medal presented by Mr..W. C. Young.— Bugler Curtis, Pathfinder Patrol ; specially commended — Buglers Welsh (Kelburne Patrol), Caverhill (Petone), and Wearne (Mount Victoria). District Championship Knotting Competition, for medals presented by Messrs. H. Seaton and T. o *' — S cout Pointon, Boys' Institute, 1 ; fecout Copeland, Newtown Troop, 2. District Championship Hut-Building Competition, for banner presented by Mr. 0, J. Crawford,— Boys' Institute Patrol, Credit is due to the originators of the demonstration -~- Messrs. C. Coloneus (Boys' Institute), W. H. Walton (St. Peter's), A. MacPonald (Mount Victoria), and Rhodes (Pathfinders)— for the admirable manner it was conducted. The judges of the competitions were — First aid, Dr . Begg; hut-building, Lieut.-Commander H. N. M'Leod ; knotting, Captain Hooper; bugling, Bombardier Johnson; and signalling, Bombardier F. Just.
