THE QUEENSLAND REFERENDUM , . FUNDS FOR T"cATHEDRAL. [ET TtLBCBAPH— m»SS AUSOCIATIOS.I DUNEDIN, This Day. The Primate, in opening the Anglican Diocesan Synod this afternoon, said it was somewhat t'4*jgular, and not insignificant, that the New Zealand newspapers, almost with one consent, had presented the Queensland referendum on education as a referendum on the Bible-in-Schools question. It was no such thing, but very much more. Ho presented the full text of the ballot paper, and said it was virtually th'e New South Wales system that was the issue, upon which over 52 per cent, of the I electors recorded their votes and 18,000 voted aye. The Primate to-day announced to the Anglican_ Synod that a Dunedin resident had promised £1000 towards a cathedral, and said he had reason to hope that the gentleman's business part ncr, who had already promised £500, would increase his gift to £1000, while a lady had offered a contribution which, together with donations from her family, might be set down at another £1000.
