THE BROWN SHIELD.

FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the New Zealand Football Association a series of motions dealing with the rules governing the Brown Shield and the powers of the council to claim the proceeds from Brown Shield matches for the puipose of defraying losses on matches in other centres, if any, were referred to a subcommittee consisting of the chairman and Messrs. Eoberts and Oilier, with instructions to submit a more satisfactory scheme. It was agreed that "no association, being the holder of the Brown Shield, shall be asked to play more than four challenge matches during the season, unless it agrees to play extra matches, and one of such four matches shall foe v. mid-weelc match, if the challenged association so desires." It' was also decided that no challenges for the shield shall be received before Ist May in each season, but the council shall carry over a challenge from one season to another. The Poverty Bay British Football Association's application for affiliation was granted, subject to the proviso that the district did not interfere with those of the Auckland Association. Information was received from the Commonwealth, agieeing that Mr. A. E. Gibbs should represent Australasia on the Football Association Council. Challenges for the Brown Shield were teceivod from Taranaki, Otago, AuckJ land, and Canterbury, and were referred to the council to be dealt with in the trder named. A suggestion that a North v. South Island match might be arranged, was referred to the Management Committee. It was resolved that a special meeting be hold aa soon as possible to consider further alterations to Brown Shield rules. A vote of thanks was accorded' tho ■ V M.C.A. for use of rooms. Intimation has been received by ths secretary of the New Zealand Football Association to the effect that the Auck land Football Association is in favour of the proposed tour of New Zealand by a team from New South Wales in 1911, and*is agreeable to guarantee the sum of £175 towards expenses.
