CHRISTCHURCH COMPETITIONS. FURTHER RESULTS.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHEISTCHURCH, 22nd May. The literary and musical competitions were resumed yesterday. Principal results are :—: — Piano duet, any age. — Misses V. Curlett and A. Mason (Christchurch), 1 ; Misses A. M. Pounsford and J. B. Atkinson (Christchurch), 2. PiaDO solo (twelve years and under fifteen). — Miss Vera Moore (Dunedin), 1 : Miss Nellie Richardson (Christchurch), 2. Piano duet (sixteen years and under). — Misses G. Eaton and Andrew Gibson (Christchurch), 1; Master F. W. M'Caldon and Miss E. M. M'Caldon (Christchurch), 2. Violin solo (sixteen and under). — Master A. V. Westhead (Dunedin), 1 ; Miss Fanny Coles (Christchurch), 2. Mandolin solo. — Miss K. Baunton (Christchurch), 1 ; A. J. Pollard (Christchurch), 2. Piano solo (eighteen and under twentyone). — Miss Aileen Moore (Dunedin)." Mezzo soprano solo ("Rose Softly Blooming"). — Miss Newman (Wellington), 139 marks, 1 j Miss Paoey (Dunedin), 137 marks, 2; Miss Lucy G. James (Dunedin), 130 marks., 3. The judge stated the item was for the most part sung rather toe slowly and coldly. Miss Lyons was evidently suffering from a severe cold, and her voice was unsteady. Recitation for girls (fifteen and under twenty-one). — Miss Devereux (Christchurch), 1; Miss Luke (Wellington), 2. Irish song. — G. J. Blackie (Dunedin), "Molly Bawn," ,1 ; Miss Pacey (Dunedin), "If All the Young Maidens," 2; H. M'Leod (Christchurch), "Oft in the Stilly Night," 3. Humorous song (by lady or gentleman).—Miss Pacey, 1; R. H. Webb (Christchurch), 2.
