PERSONAL MATTERS.
Mr. Justice Chapman left for Auckland to-day. Mr. and Mrs. William Finlay, of Wellington, left for London by the Athenic to-day. Mr. Justice Cooper will leave for Palmerston North to-morrow to open the civil and criminal sessions of the Supreme Court there. The chief case is the trial of Powelka. Dr. H. Ghesson, who has been resident medical officer at the Hanmer Springs Sanatorium for the pact year, has accepted the appointment of medical and health officer of the Cook Islands. He will leave for the Isivnds shortly. Mr. F. W. Delamain, who died on Tuesday, was one of the most prominent old-time racing men in Canterbury. In the sixties iie was the owner of (■•aveiral distinguished racehorses. Mr. Delamain was a member of the Provincial Council, and was one time owner of the famous Yaldhurst. stud farm. Up to recently no was a frequent \isitor at the Riccarton meetings. Spme useful gifts were presented to Mr. A. J. Geary by the choir of St. Pater's Church last evening. Dr. Kington Fyffe, who made the presentation, mentioned that Mr. Geary had been a member of 'the choir for 16 years, and 'had at all times rendered very valuable a. c -sistance. Mr. H. F. Allen j also apoke in appreciation of Mr. Geary's services. The compliments paid were suitably acknowledged by Air. Geary, who is abouit to take up the poeition of Town Clerk ait Feilding. Mr. Haary L. Ditncam, Deputy-Post-master-General of Madras, and Mrs. Dunca.n, who arrived in Wellington about three months agp, will leave this j city on their return journey to India to-morrow week. Mt. Dimcan, who is at present at Rotorua, was grant-ed a year's furlough and came to New Zealand to recuperate, and al?o to visit his cousin, Mr. George Wilson, of Wellington. \ His health has so much improved that he has arranged to resume duty before the expiration of hi 3 leave. He will leave a son to learn farming in the Waikato, and in all probability he will 'himself settle in New Zealand when the retires from the Indian Civil Service.
