NEW STEAMER. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 13th May. The Allan Line is building two 20,000ton steamers for the Liverpool-Canadian trade. They will be propelled by turbines, at a speed of 22 knots an hour. [The Allan Line of steamers, originally called the Montreal Ocean Steamship Company, was formerly the Allan Brothers, who, as sailing-shipowners, had been connected with Canada since June, 1819, when the founder of the line, Alexander Allan, sailed in command of his brig Jean, 73 tons register, from Greenock to Quebec, since which the connection with Canada has been continuous. The mail service began in 1856, with the sailing of the North American. Since 1859 the sailings have been ' weeklj . Tho fleet cousists of 27 vessels, aggregating 156,047 tons. It was recently announced that an amalgamation of the Allan Line and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company had been practically arranged. It has also been proposed to alternate the C.P.R.Allan weekly service and the new Canadian Northern Railway Company's ser vice to Bristol, so as to secure a biweekly service. The Canadian Pacific owns 67 steamers.]
