PRIMARY ELECTION SYSTEM.
NEW YORK MEASURE REJECTED. By Telegraph. — Press Association.— Copyright. NEW YORK. 13th May. The Lower House of the New York State Legislature has rejected the measure advocated by Governor Hughes | (who is now nominated to the United States Supreme Court Bench) dealing with the primary election system. The party bosses opposed ■' the mea- } sure, but passed a substitute Bill containing less far-reaching reforms. The upshot is interpreted as making ■ the defeat of the Republicans at the ', elections in the autumn more probable.
