KEEL LAID. 8; Telegnph. — Pr«M Awocittlon.— Copyright. (Received April 14, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 13th April. The keel of the battleship Thunderer has been laid at Poplar. Day and night shifts have been arianged. The ship is being built at the yard* of the Thamc* Iron Works, Ship Buildin);, and Engineering Company, Ltd. The tonnage, dimensions, *peed, and armament of the four contingent ships of 1909 (the Thundeiei* being one of them) have never been authoritatively announced. As some foreign Powers are building battleships up to 27,500 tons, 22.5 knots, it i* expected that the three contingent battleships will not be under 25,000 or 26,000 ton«, but the Admiralty seems satisfied with a contract *peed of 21 knots, which has always been a good de«l exceeded in practice. The "contingent" cruiser-bat tl«»hip Princess Royal is said to be a sUter *hip to the Lion, now building at Devonport, and if bo she will be 26,350 tons, 670" feet in length, with 70.000 horse power engines, which fehould give from 28 to 30 knots, though 27 knots is t<j be the norraai speed.
